As we head into another month at Island Sailing, we want to reflect on something that goes beyond boats, reservations, and the day-to-day work of running a sailing club: how we show up for our members.
“Work is love made visible.” — Khalil Gibran
This quote carries truth in how we show up to the workplace. Loving the work we do means taking pride in how we can show up to make the club a better place to create a love of sailing. It means caring about the details, treating people with respect, and looking for ways to make someone’s experience a little better.
In that love, there is also professionalism. To us, professionalism is about the care and intention behind what we do. When we care about our work and our members, that shows in how we communicate, how we solve problems, and how we can lend a helping hand.
Our goal is to pour that care into our members every day. Whether you’re a longtime member who knows the fleet inside and out or someone who is just getting started, we want you to feel welcomed, supported, and appreciated. We’re fortunate to do work that we love, and we hope that passion is visible in the experience we create for our members.

Heads Up: I-5 Construction May Affect Your Trip to the Club
If you haven’t heard about the construction project happening on I-5 near downtown Portland, you must be spending a little too much time out on the water! Unfortunately, this one is about to affect a lot of people.
Beginning the evening of September 11, all southbound lanes of I-5 through Portland’s Rose Quarter will be closed for repairs for up to five weeks, and potentially longer. Officials are anticipating significant traffic backups, potentially extending into Vancouver, so we expect this will have an impact on your commute to the club as well.
Unless you’re one of the lucky members who commutes to the club by boat or bike, we recommend planning for extra travel time when heading our way. Give yourself plenty of time to get here, get settled, and enjoy your time on the water!

This Month at Island Sailing
This September, we’re excited to officially launch a brand-new social event for our members: the Island Sailing Social Club!
We know that sailing on your own can sometimes be challenging, and meeting other members isn’t always easy, especially when you’re new to the club. That’s why we created the Island Sailing Social Club: a casual way to connect, meet fellow members, and share your love of sailing.
Join us on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 4–7 p.m. for happy hour at 3 Sheets at the Harbor. Come enjoy drinks and appetizers, meet new people, and connect with fellow members in a relaxed setting.
Whether you’re new to the club or a longtime member, we’d love to see you there!

As the horizon draws near...
As the leaves begin to turn yellow and gold, crispness settles into the morning air, and autumn rain replaces the summer skies, our prime summer sailing season has begun to wind down.
Luckily, our club is open year-round. We love sailing, and we’re committed to creating an environment where you can continue to grow, enjoy, and foster your sailing potential, even in the offseason.
Here’s to the love of sailing, the community it creates, and the adventures still to come on the mighty Columbia.
